Neil Smith has joined Jenks & Cattell to head up the senior management team as Managing Director.

With the Company growing from strength to strength and expanding into new market sectors, Neil has the responsibility of steering the business through the current economic climate and beyond.

The additional services recently introduced by Jenks & Cattell for laser processing, fabrication and assembly now provides customers with a one stop shop opportunity that compliments the Company’s press work activity.

Having over 20 years experience in senior management, Neil is well versed in new product development, lean manufacturing, value added processes, continuous improvement and customer service in the engineering industry.

“I look forward to working with the management team to build on the strong reputation already enjoyed by Jenks and Cattell and to drive the business towards world class”.

Neil, 57 from Lancashire, enjoys walking, cooking and is a keen golfer in his spare time.

The Apprenticeships, in Toolmaking and Fabrication and Welding, give our company the opportunity to increase workforce skills through accredited training while preventing skills shortages.

Our Technical Sales Manager Nick George chose the Apprenticeship programme at City of Wolverhampton College because he felt they offered employers the best support network.

Luke Henson, aged 17, and Jack McGinty, 19, joined us in September 2011.

Luke and Jack, who combine their work with studying at City of Wolverhampton College, chose the programme to give them the vital work experience that would appeal to future employers.

They are fitting in exceptionally well and are being trained in our manufacturing methods and how we operate.

They bring a more youthful approach to the organisation and encourage our workforce to be more positive.

We are really pleased with the scheme and hope to take on more Apprentices every other year.

Subcon 2011

The show was a great success with a record breaking attendance, up 20% on the previous show record.

It was also a great success for Jenks & Cattell with a high level of quality leads, and new contacts, as well as the opportunity to meet with some of our existing customers.

Our next exhibition will be SUBCON held at the NEC Birmingham on 7-9 June 2011 – Hall 3A.   Our Stand No is H3 – we look forward to seeing you there!

We need to continue developing our suppliers and have recently employed an auditor, who shall be trained to TS level standard, to assist with this function.

We have also once again hit our target for the reduction of accidents within the plant.

The targets for 2011 shall be tightened in line with our improvements made over the last 12 months.

The award covers all aspects of our supply of parts and services to mainly Perkins Engines, based in Peterborough, as well as their satellite plants in both North and South America and the recent new assembly plant, opened in China.

There are several metrics which have to be adhered to obtain this award including PPM, delivery performance, PPAP’s on time and no deviations for parts we supply.

The targets are extremely tough and this proves our ability to control our suppliers, and our process’s, to achieve them.

The final approval for this award is granted by Caterpillars head office in Peoria, Illinois, USA, after scrutiny of our performance figures to each plant, and then overall.
