Engineering Estimator

We are looking to expand our team with an experienced candidate from a manufacturing engineering estimating background.

All estimating backgrounds are encouraged to apply, however those candidates with metalwork industry experience will be viewed highly favourably. Candidates who are in a pressing, welding, laser cut fabrication and CNC machining industry and are actively looking to go into an estimating/office-based engineering role will be well suited.

Day to day, the successful candidate will be formulating quotations and creating estimate costs from costing each component from reading CAD or engineering drawings. The role is centred around identifying the most suitable and cost-effective process route to manufacture components via internal capabilities and sub-contract operations.

The recruit will be working as a team of 3 estimators, plus sales and engineering support on-hand.

Responsibilities:

  • Receive and review RFQ’s and engineering drawings from the sales team
  • Liaise, communicate, and negotiate with suppliers to obtain subcontract costs
  • Prepare cost sheets for individual components and assemblies to deadlines, ready for the sales team to quote
  • Assist with preparation of production components and material which will involve working with various internal teams and uploading on to our ERP system
  • Work effectively with other members of the estimating department and wider business to achieve the most effective and competitive solutions

Supporting with business/costing queries on our ERP system through reviewing process routes and BOMs

Skills & Experience 

  • Engineering apprenticeship, formal engineering qualification or industry experience is preferable
  • Computer literate is essential, with experience on Microsoft NAV Dynamics being a bonus
  • A pride in your work and a keen interest in the company’s resulting performance.

  • An excellent working knowledge of the mechanical engineering
  • Excellent interpersonal, communicative, listening, and negotiation skills

Ability to read and translate technical drawings is essential.

Head of Engineering

The successful candidate for this role will have a proven track record of success in a similar leadership role within a manufacturing environment. They will have a strong background in engineering, with expertise in metal pressing|stamping, CNC machining, laser cutting, welding, and assembly processes. Excellent communication and leadership skills are essential, as well as the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and external partners.

In addition, the ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and skills:

  • A degree in engineering or a related field, with professional qualifications such as chartered engineer status preferred
  •  Demonstrated experience in leading and managing engineering teams to deliver on new product introductions and process improvements
  •  Strong technical knowledge and expertise in Pressings, press tooling, laser cutting and automation
  •  Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to identify and implement innovative solutions to complex engineering challenges
  • Proven ability to drive continuous improvement in product quality, cost reduction, and manufacturing efficiency
  • Experience in project management, budgeting, and resource allocation
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Automotive industry experience, including overall responsibility for PPAP submission.

Design Engineer

As a Design Engineer at Jenks & Cattell Engineering, you will be instrumental in shaping our innovative solutions. This is a newly created role and involves the following responsibilities:

Specific Role & Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for designing fixtures and tools for new products of metal components and metal assemblies
  • Support estimating and NPI teams with forming analysis for metal stamping and press brake forming
  • Assist estimating team with fixture concepts for quotation purposes
  • Responsible for maintaining site layouts
  • Work with customers on design for manufacture (DFM) improvements
  • Support toolroom and production engineering with designs and technical drawings

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • Degree, HNC or equivalent in an engineering or science discipline

Required Skills:

  • Proven experience with designing fixtures and tools using 3D CAD, preferably Solid Works
  • Fluent with using 2D software packages
  • Understanding of technical drawings and drawing standards
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes – Metal stamping, machining and welded assemblies

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with forming FEA for metal stampings
  • Experience with CAM software for CNC machining, laser cutting or press brake
  • Excellent communication skills
